Translators needed - all languages
Spiritual Outreach Works wishes to make its materials available to anyone who may benefit from them. Thus we strive to eliminate all potential obstacles such as cost or language. Volunteer translators are welcome in all languages. If you would like to assist on a volunteer basis, please contact us.
Translator Policy
We recognize that translation is a very difficult task - as much art as science. We also recognize that translation is a dangerous undertaking; it is painfully easy to distort the author's message by unintentionally shifting the nuances and connotations of the language. Therefore, as much as Spiritual Outreach Works dearly appreciates all translation volunteers, it does follow a strict translator policy. If the policy prevents you from translating at this time (typically for lack of additional translators), please do not be offended. We will welcome your volunteer efforts as soon as all points of the translator policy can be met. Here are the points of the translator policy:
-
Translation must always be done in teams. There must be at least two team members and preferably three for each language. The original author may be considered a team member if fluent in the target language. It is preferred that team members not know each other before beginning the translation task.
-
A lead translator may or may not be appointed for each team.
-
All submissions MUST be reviewed. This is why there must be at least two team members.
-
When in doubt about the intent of a passage, the original author must be consulted.
-
Disagreements should be resolved by consensus. If they cannot be resolved by consensus, they will be resolved by the original author with input from the team whether or not the author is familiar with the target language.
-
Translations remain the property of Spiritual Outreach Works and may not be published or distributed without the written permission of Spiritual Outreach Works.
-
Translations shall be published at the sole discretion of Spiritual Outreach Works.
